Enrolling & Dropping Classes
Every student must meet their academic advisor, each semester, before enrolling in classes; we also recommend students contact their advisor prior to dropping any class.
It is advisable to schedule your appointment to discuss classes for the following semester at least two weeks prior to your actual enrollment date.
There are two ways to make an appointment to meet with your academic advisor:
- Go to http://star.okstate.edu/ to schedule your appointment through the STAR online appointment system. If you have questions about how to make an appointment online through STAR, please click here; or
- You may come in person to 214 Student Union and schedule your appointment with assistance from the front desk.
Once you have made an appointment you will receive an e-mail to your @okstate.edu address confirming the appointment.
Degree Works is a tool for students that helps them actively track their academic progress and explore majors. Degree Works is a real time degree sheet, however it does not list course titles. If you would like to view degree requirements with course names, view your traditional degree sheet.
You can access Degree Works from the myOKSTATE portal. When in Degree Works, select the What If tab on the left side of the screen. Next, select the major you are considering. Click the Process What-If button (interactive version) or Process PDF button (printable version) to see your academic progress in the selected major.
Degree Works highlights degree requirements according to their current status.
- Green = currently fulfilled
- Blue = in progress
- Red = not started
Helpful tips when working in Degree Works:
- Degree Works is best run on Firefox.
- Clicking on class titles show further details including the description and pre-requisites required to the specific course.
- If the student has taken a class that is not applicable to the major they are evaluating on Degree Works, it will be put at the bottom of the page under Fall Through.
Plan Ahead is a feature that students can access through the registration page of Self Service (from the myOKSTATE portal). This tool allows you to select the date and time of the classes you would like to take in upcoming semesters. This serves as a bookmark so that you can select classes prior to registration and find them again easily. Plan Ahead does not reserve seats in classes.
Search for classes by subject and course number. Under Advanced Search, search for classes by title, course number range, general education attribute, and schedule type. We recommend you make a Plan Ahead schedule before you meet with your advisor so that you can review it together.
Check your plan 24 hours prior to registration so that you may select an alternate section or course if any are full.
Students may refer to notes from their advisor meeting, degree sheets, and Degree Works to select classes that are applicable to their degree.
Make sure to check your holds before your advising appointment and before enrollment.
Registration holds prevent students from enrolling in or dropping classes. Common holds include bursar bills, immunization records, missing transcripts, student conduct, advising, etc. Some holds affect all semesters; others are term-specific.
Log in to the myOKSTATE portal. Click on the Self Service icon, then the Student tab, and then the Student Profile (XE) link. Click on the Holds section and review details for any listed holds.
More information about specific holds and how to clear them is available here.
All students should discuss schedule changes with their advisor before dropping classes. First-semester students are required to speak with their advisor before they can drop any classes.
There are four drop deadlines for full-semester classes. Please review the Academic Calendar for exact dates and specific details.
- 100% Refund
- Partial Refund
- W Drop/Withdraw
- W/F Withdraw
Each deadline has different ramifications that could impact billing, financial aid, academic standing, course selection, graduation, etc.
After conferring with your advisor via e-mail or in person, you can drop the class through myOKSTATE Self Service. If you have trouble dropping online, please e-mail your advisor right away. Registration holds will prevent you from dropping online, but you may be able to drop the class in person; contact your advisor for more details.
To learn how to drop a class in Self Service, visit the Registrar's website.
Important Advising Reminders
Same-day appointments for UCA advising are available the first two weeks of the semester from 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
In the fall, October & November are Advising Months. In the spring, March & April are Advising Months. During these months, we suggest making your appointment for course scheduling at least two weeks in advance of your enrollment date (near the end of November and mid-April for freshmen).
