- About Us
Any first time student, who has not completed any college credit (concurrent or transfer) is considered to be in good academic standing.
Undergraduate students must meet the GPA requirements below to be in good academic standing with the University.
|Overall Hours Attempted||Minimum Overall GPA Required|
|0 - 30 hours||1.70|
|31 or more hours||2.00|
Students not under academic suspension from the University are judged to be making satisfactory progress toward their educational objectives.
Note: Each college, department, or academic program within OSU may require higher standards for admission, retention, or good academic standing.
Students with 0 through 30 hours attempted and 1.70 to 1.99 GPA are placed on academic notice. Students on academic notice who do not raise their GPA to 2.00 by the time they have attempted over 30 hours are placed on probation. Academic notice is cautionary in nature and not noted on the transcript.
Students whose overall GPA is at least a 2.0, who have an institution (OSU) GPA less than 2.00 or who do not earn a 2.00 GPA for the semester are placed on academic warning.
Failure to improve their OSU GPA or semester GPA in the future may result in academic probation or delay graduation. Academic warning is cautionary in nature and not noted on the transcript.
Students previously in good standing who fail to meet the above standard are placed on academic probation. Students on probation may continue enrollment in an attempt to improve their academic standing. A student remains on probation until the overall GPA meets the standard for hours attempted, as listed above.
During a probationary semester, a student must earn a 2.00 semester GPA (not including activity courses) or raise the overall GPA to the retention standard above to be eligible for continued enrollment.
Academic suspension occurs when a student on academic probation fails to earn a 2.00 semester GPA or fails to raise their overall GPA up to the minimum standard. Suspension normally means a student may not enroll at OSU for at least one regular semester (i.e. fall or spring).
*Note: financial aid status is calculated independently of a student's academic status and should be discussed with a representative from Financial Aid.
