Pre-Professional Health & Law Support Services
Pre-Forensic Science
What do forensic scientists do?
- Forensic scientists examine the intersection of science and law by applying scientific knowledge and techniques to the investigation of crimes and legal debates.
- Forensic scientists apply chemistry, physics, biology, mathematics and even psychology to help protect people, serve justice and promote public health. As a scientist they must be accurate, methodical, detailed, and above all, impartial.
- Although the profession is closely identified with the criminal justice system, forensic scientists play an increasingly active role in promoting civil and regulatory justice.
- Their expertise is vast and ranges from questions of the validity of a signature on a will, to products liability claims, or whether a corporation is complying with environmental regulations.
- They may also investigate and collect data on employee drug use, doping by athletes and possible contamination of public spaces.
