Step 1
About Program & Benefits
- Overview: How Program WorksThe OSU-College of Veterinary Medicine: Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (OSU-CVM: DVM) Early Admission Program offers incoming, traditional OSU-Stillwater freshman students the opportunity to be considered for early provisional acceptance to veterinary school.
- Eligible candidates apply very early as an entering, fall semester OSU-Stillwater college freshman (graduated high school in May of application year).
- If granted provisional acceptance into the program, you will have a guaranteed seat to veterinary professional school at OSU-College of Veterinary Medicine - pending successful program completion requirements.
- Complete your OSU-Stillwater bachelor’s degree of your choice within 8 consecutive semesters (or less).
- Maintain full-time status and 3.5 GPA (or higher) each semester during their OSU-Stillwater undergraduate education.
- Note: summer undergraduate coursework taken must be pre-approved by OSU-CVM Student Services Office.
- Complete all required OSU-CVM: DVM prerequisite courses.
- Complete all additional OSU-CVM: DVM Early Admission Program requirements in coordination with OSU-College of Veterinary Medicine.

- If accepted, you are provided provisional acceptance in your freshman year of college at OSU-Stillwater to the OSU-College of Veterinary Medicine: Doctor of Veterinary Medicine professional school.
- The Early Admission Program strives to provide additional guidance, direction, mentorship in your pursuit of a veterinary medical career.
- Be considered for OSU-CVM: Doctor of Veterinary Medicine professional school admission early and among a smaller pool of applicants.
- I'm an Interested High School Junior/Senior. What Should I Do?The Early Admission Program is a very rigorous program designed for high-achieving, incoming OSU-Stillwater freshman students who desire to serve as a future veterinarian.
- Study hard and earn a high, eligible ACT or SAT score for the program pre-qualifications. Review all program pre-qualifications below.
- Take rigorous courses. Biology and chemistry (for science majors-level), math and other general core courses (English, history, foreign language, etc.) to help with your overall holistic preparation.
- The Early Admission Program allows college-level coursework to be earned prior to fall, freshman entry to OSU-Stillwater while a high school student through:
- AP credit awarded at the college-level.
- Concurrent enrollment courses.
- Note: all grades from college-level courses will be counted towards the GPA requirements for the OSU-CVM: DVM Early Admission Program and towards your GPA as a future OSU-Stillwater student. Please take all academic courses seriously.
- Gain Experience. Additional high school preparation recommendations.
Step 2
Eligibility & Qualifications
- Who Should Apply?
- Highly motivated, incoming OSU-Stillwater freshman undergraduate students.
- Highly committed students to a career in veterinary medicine prior to freshman undergraduate fall semester enrollment.
- Academically high-achieving students.
- Applicants should possess effective leadership/communication skills, emotional maturity and other non-technical skills which reflect the knowledge and aptitude necessary for successful practice of veterinary medicine.
- Experience working with or shadowing a veterinarian is preferred but not required.
- Program Pre-QualificationsMust:
- Be an entering OSU-Stillwater college fall semester freshman (graduated high school in May).
- Score a 28 (or higher) on ACT or 1300 (or higher) on SAT (without writing portion).
- Demonstrate your strong interest in veterinary medicine.
- Possess effective leadership/communication skills, emotional maturity and non-technical skills which reflect knowledge and aptitude necessary for successful practice of veterinary medicine and for the required OSU-CVM: DVM Early Admission Program application/interview process.
- Be enrolled at OSU-Stillwater as a full-time student.
Step 3
Final Steps: Preparing to Apply
- When Do I Officially Apply?If you meet all pre-qualifications and eligibility, candidates:
- Apply very early as entering, fall semester college OSU-Stillwater freshman (graduated high school in May).
- The OSU-CVM: DVM Early Admission Program application typically opens in early August and is due in early September each year. Don't miss the application deadline!
- Official Application Materials RequiredMust provide:
- Completed OSU-CVM: DVM Early Admission Program online application.
- ACT/SAT scores.
- Official high school transcript and/or college transcript showing any concurrent courses.
- Two letters of reference (recommendation).
- Early Admission Program Application & Interview: What To ExpectUpon successful completion and submission of all required items before the required OSU-CVM: DVM Early Admission Program deadline:
- Qualified applicants will participate in a OSU-College of Veterinary Medicine: DVM professional school interview as part of the selection process.
- Anticipate your interview will take place early in your OSU-Stillwater college freshman year.
- Final Decisions: What To Expect
- Anticipate your OSU-CVM: DVM Early Admissions Program final decision in your freshman year.
- All applicants will either be granted provisional acceptance into the program or be advised to re-apply later through a traditional admissions professional school cycle.
- If you have been granted provisional acceptance, congratulations! Next, please review the "3 Steps: Accepted Candidates" information to successfully stay on track until final matriculation to OSU-College of Veterinary Medicine: Doctor of Veterinary Medicine professional school.
- If you were not accepted, don't give up! Continue to holistically grow. You are no longer required to follow the official steps or guidelines for the OSU-CVM: DVM Early Admission Program. Finish strong with your remaining OSU academic studies and other non-academic development. Consider applying later as a traditional veterinary medicine professional school applicant cycle and when you feel more holistically prepared.
